Woo Yoo of the Penn State Workforce Education and Development Initiative.
The article, released on September 10, 2008 highlighted an analysis of the
Pittsburgh Corning Corp. summer shutdown on the local economy.

Dallas Business JournalThe Dallas Business Journal recently released an article citing the Penn State Workforce Education & Development Brief, "Forecast of the Potential Impact of Increased Royalty Income on the Pennsylvania Economy, 2008–2011"pdf. The Brief describes the potential impact that natural gas drilling throughout the Marcellus black shale in northern Appalachia could have on the economy and gas royalty benefits for residents.

An obstacle that has prevented drilling in the past has been the rugged terrain of the shale, resulting in extensive periods of time in accessing the resource.

On June 30, 2010, Rose Baker and David Passmore participated in a panel discussion on Marcellus Shale Gas Drilling: Impacts on Centre County which focused on job creation, economic and environmental impacts, new and pending legislation, and regulatory permitting related to the Marcellus Shale natural gas play.
