Baker/Passmore Make Presentations in Ireland -- Virtually

On May 21, 2010, Rose Baker and David Passmore made presentations at the 10th Annual Irish Learning Technology Association Conference, EdTech 2010 at the Athlone Institute of Technology in Athlone, Ireland. However, ash from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland resulted in cancellation of their travel to Ireland. They did the next best thing: They delivered their presentations virtually over the Internet.

Baker and Passmore traveled as far as Philadelphia when they found out that their USAirways flight to London (and on to Shannon, Ireland) was canceled.

The concepts and methods used in commodity and financial futures markets are adapted to structure idea futures markets. Rather than trading on future prices for commodities or financial instruments, propositions (ideas) that are specific, identifiable, and operational are traded. Shares in an idea future are bought and sold using standard market methods.

The Penn State Workforce Education & Development Initiative created a preliminary forecast of the impact of rate cap elimination on the Pennsylvania economy. Rose Baker and David Passmore presented “Elimination of Current Electricity Rates Caps in Pennsylvania, 2011-2015", at the REMI Seminar-Modeling the Current Economic Crisis, in Harrisburg, PA on November 4, 2008. The presentation provided preliminary estimates of the Pennsylvania economic impact through 2015 of the elimination of rate caps.
